The brain under stress :
from molecular processes to clinical perspectives

Registration from April 15th, 2026

About BrainStress

The stress response system is a powerful example of how living organisms adapt to environmental challenges. In animals, it mobilizes the entire body, engaging neural, endocrine, and immune systems in a complex interplay from molecular mechanisms to cognitive processes. However, when adaptation fails, stress can lead to allostatic overload—a tipping point where stress becomes toxic and a risk factor for brain health. This overload increases vulnerability to numerous brain dysfunctions including anxiety, mood and substance use- disorders, but also neurodegenerative diseases. The “BrainStress” conference dives into the neurobiology of stress from cellular pathways to complex behavioral responses and clinical aspects. We will discuss stress with a holistic perspective including physical, psychosocial, nutritional, and environmental factors during the entire lifespan. Finally, we will delve into interdisciplinary strategies to counteract the effects of stress, with a particular focus on how these approaches influence the brain. Our selected speakers include both early-career scientists (postdoctoral researchers and PhD students) and leading international experts in the field. In summary, the “BrainStress” conference will showcase cutting-edge interdisciplinary research on stress, fostering discussions between clinicians and researchers.
